Danube Avenue Elementary School - Dress Code

Dear Parents,

The local School Leadership Council at Danube Avenue School would like to inform you of the Dress Code currently in place at Danube. According to the California Education Code, the dress and grooming of the student shall be clean and shall not cause a health and/or safety hazard to the child or others.

Please be aware of these specific areas of the Dress Code:

Shoes:  Socks must be worn with shoes at all times. Because your child participates in daily physical education, it is strongly suggested that sport shoes are worn each day. No open toe or open back shoes are allowed. Shoes with bright flashing lights or sounds are considered a distraction and should not be worn at school. No roller shoes or shoes with cleats are allowed. Shoe laces must be tied at all times.

Shirts:  Shirts must be long enough to cover the waistband of the pants with arms raised. Sleeveless shirts must have a shoulder width of two or more inches. Shirts with offensive or suggestive language are not permitted.

Shorts:  Shorts must be mid-thigh in length. The leg openings must be hemmed.

Pants:  Pant legs must be hemmed. Pants must not be frayed, torn, split, or in general disrepair. Pants must have a high enough waist to cover the back side while sitting.

Skirts, Jumpers, and Dresses:  Dresses without shorts or leggings underneath should be mid-thigh or longer in length.

Hats:  Hats may be worn for the purpose of warmth and sun safety only. They are to be worn outdoors only.

Jewelry:  Expensive jewelry must not be worn at school. We cannot be responsible for lost or stolen jewelry. Large, hanging bracelets, earrings, and necklaces pose a health risk and should not be worn at school.

Jackets, Sweaters:  Jackets with hoods that transform into masks must never be pulled over the face when worn at school. Capes should be removed from jackets and left at home. Please be sure to write the child's name on the inside of the jacket to ensure its return if lost.

The appropriateness of any clothing item will be left to the discretion of the administrator.

The safety of our students is taken very seriously. Parents will be notified if there is an infraction of the dress code.

Sincerely yours,

The Leadership Council
